Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was detained on Saturday at his residence in Brazil’s capital, according to CNN affiliate CNN Brazil. Bolsonaro was arrested under a preventive arrest warrant requested by the police and authorized by the Supreme Court. The arrest took place at his home in Brasília. A vigil organized by Bolsonaro’s son, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, in front of the building complex where the former president resides, led to the request for preventive detention. Bolsonaro had been sentenced earlier this year to 27 years in prison for planning to remain in power after losing the 2022 election to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, and was previously under house arrest.
