Brazil’s former president Jair Bolsonaro is set to undergo surgery for a hernia. The Supreme Court has issued a ruling allowing him to be temporarily released from prison for the procedure this Thursday, as seen in documents disclosed by Reuters and AFP. Earlier on Tuesday, Bolsonaro had to cancel a scheduled interview with the news outlet Metropoles due to health issues, as reported by the media. The Supreme Court had granted him permission to conduct the interview from prison. Bolsonaro is currently incarcerated in a prison in the capital city of Brasilia, serving a 27-year sentence for his involvement in planning a coup against President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva after Bolsonaro’s electoral defeat in 2022. Initially, due to health concerns, he was allowed to serve his sentence under house arrest. However, he was sent back to prison when he attempted to tamper with his ankle monitor.
