Brazil’s Supreme Court has granted former president Jair Bolsonaro permission to temporarily leave prison for a hernia surgery on Christmas Day. Bolsonaro, who is currently serving a 27-year prison sentence for plotting a coup after the 2022 election, will be transferred to a hospital for the operation. Justice Alexandre de Moraes approved the request on Tuesday, considering Bolsonaro’s health complications following a 2018 stabbing incident. Bolsonaro’s son, Flávio, requested prayers for his father’s recovery, as the former president continues to face challenges related to his previous intestinal surgery.
