Former President Jair Bolsonaro of Brazil has been hospitalized with pneumonia in an intensive care unit in Brasilia, confirmed by a hospital in the capital on Friday.
Having been diagnosed with pneumonia, Bolsonaro’s medical condition is regarded as severe, especially due to the risk of septicemia in patients over 70, as per his doctor, Brasil Caiado.
Doctor Caiado mentioned that the 70-year-old Bolsonaro was transferred from prison to the hospital with a medical condition that included high fever, low oxygen, sweating, and chills, and further tests indicated bronchopneumonia caused by aspiration.
Bolsonaro is presently receiving IV antibiotics and clinical support in the intensive care unit of DF Star Hospital, with Caiado indicating that he is unlikely to return to prison immediately due to the intravenous treatment requirements.
His son Flávio Bolsonaro, who has expressed interest in running for president, asked for prayers, while another son, Carlos Bolsonaro, expressed concerns about the medical treatment received by his father, who has been involved in legal battles related to his previous convictions.
Following his role in a coup attempt, Bolsonaro was convicted last year and handed a 27-year prison sentence, which has led to ongoing legal disputes regarding his imprisonment conditions.
Despite ongoing health issues, legal battles, and prison transfers, Bolsonaro is at the center of intense political and legal discussions in Brazil, impacting his family and allies.
The case of former President Jair Bolsonaro’s hospitalization continues to draw attention to the Brazilian political landscape, raising questions about the country’s democratic processes and legal system.
