Brazil’s Senate is set to begin debating a Bill on Dec 17 that aims to reduce former president Jair Bolsonaro’s 27-year prison sentence. Bolsonaro started serving his sentence in November following his conviction for an attempted coup after losing the 2022 election. The lower House of Congress passed the Bill, which could potentially cut Bolsonaro’s prison term to just two years. The approval of the Bill led to widespread protests in Brazil, with citizens expressing their opposition to any form of amnesty for the ex-president.
