Brazil announced its intention to bid for the 2029 Club World Cup after a meeting between President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and FIFA chief Gianni Infantino, as confirmed by Brazilian Football Confederation head Samir Xaud. The high-level gathering at the Planalto Palace in Brasília also included Sports Minister Andre Fufuca and Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti, where plans were discussed.
The country believes it is well-equipped to host such a significant event, although there are still many details to be finalized. Xaud emphasized Brazil will go ahead and submit its bid for 2029 to be considered. FIFA is yet to open the bidding process for the tournament, which follows an expanded version held in the United States last year, won by Chelsea. Spain, Morocco, and Qatar are also expected to present rival bids.
In a shift from previous practices, host selection for the Club World Cup is independent from other tournaments like the World Cup. While Spain, Morocco, and Portugal collectively secured the 2030 World Cup hosting rights, the Club World Cup’s process is distinct. Infantino’s visit to Brazil coincided with preparations for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, set to take place in the country for the first time. FIFA recently unveiled the official branding for the event featuring 32 teams competing in June and July.
