Tens of thousands of Brazilians took to the streets on Sunday to protest against a bill in Congress that aims to reduce former President Jair Bolsonaro’s prison sentence after his conviction for attempting a coup, resulting in a sentence of over 27 years. The demonstrations occurred in Brasilia and several other major cities like Sao Paulo, Florianopolis, Salvador, and Recife. In Rio de Janeiro, crowds gathered on Copacabana’s boardwalk, chanting ‘No amnesty’ and ‘Out with Hugo Motta,’ referring to the lower house speaker who approved the bill. The bill is now awaiting a Senate decision.
