Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva expressed his interest in attending the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi during a telephone call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two leaders also discussed United Nations Security Council reform in preparation for their upcoming bilateral summit in India. The call, which lasted about 45 minutes, focused on President Lula’s State Visit to India from February 19 to 21. Both leaders agreed to prioritize cooperation in key sectors including defense, trade, health, science and technology, energy, biofuels, critical minerals, and rare earths.
President Lula conveyed his enthusiasm for participating in the Artificial Intelligence Summit scheduled for February 16 to 20 in New Delhi. The leaders reviewed the agenda for the visit and highlighted the importance of the Brazil-India Business Forum, set to take place on February 21 during Lula’s visit. They also emphasized the engagement of private sector representatives from both countries in the discussions.
Additionally, Lula mentioned the inauguration of the ApexBrasil Office in New Delhi as part of the State Visit. The leaders exchanged views on the global situation, reaffirming their commitment to the comprehensive reform of the United Nations and its Security Council. They emphasized the importance of peace in Gaza and worldwide, along with the promotion of multilateralism and democracy.
India and Brazil have strengthened cooperation in various areas like trade, energy, technology, and multilateral forums in recent years, often aligning their positions on issues affecting developing economies. Both countries advocate for reforming global institutions to give emerging powers a greater role, especially at the United Nations. Lula’s participation in the AI Impact Summit is expected to boost India’s efforts to position New Delhi as a hub for global discussions on artificial intelligence, focusing on development-oriented and Global South perspectives.
