Flavio Bolsonaro, the eldest son of Brazil’s jailed former President Jair Bolsonaro, revealed that his father has chosen him to lead the far-right Liberal Party and run for president in the upcoming election. In a statement on X, Bolsonaro expressed his gratitude for being entrusted with continuing the national project by his father, whom he referred to as Brazil’s greatest political and moral leader. Jair Bolsonaro, currently serving a 27-year sentence for planning a coup after losing the 2022 presidential election, endorsed Flavio’s candidacy. Flavio Bolsonaro, who won a senate seat in 2018 and previously served as a state legislator, is known for his strong stance on law-and-order matters. He once proposed US airstrikes on Rio de Janeiro’s boats to combat drug trafficking. In his social media announcement, accompanied by a photo of him embracing his father, Flavio pledged to fight for families’ hope and to protect democracy.
